Watch Me Grow!

How can you tell when a plant needs water?

A plant’s leaves will droop when it’s “thirsty.”  You can also check the soil to see if it looks too dry.

Outdoor plants tend to need a lot of water.  If it’s very hot, you may have to water a plant every day because the water EVAPORATES from the ground and from the plant’s leaves.  When water evaporates from leaves its called TRANSPIRATION.   Transpiration is part of the WATER CYCLE.

To Mulch Or Not To Mulch…

Many people put MULCH around their plants.  Mulch can be made from wood chips, dead leaves, grass, rocks or other things. Using mulch on your plants is a great way to recycle yard waste!  Mulch helps keep the soil moist and also keep weeds out of your garden.

It's summer, do you think a plant would need more water

on a hot sunny day or on a hot cloudy day?

Think about when it is that you are thirstier...is it when it’s hot or cool outside?
